Pongal / Makar Sankranti - Colorful Free Hand Rangoli

Pongal / Makar Sankranti  is mainly celebrated to convey appreciation to the Sun God for providing the energy for agriculture. Part of the celebration is the boiling of the first rice of the season consecrated to the Sun - the Surya Maangalyam. Draw this Rangoli in front of your house is the first sign of upcoming festival!!! 

Step 1:Just Draw 3*2 dots to draw a flower and curve design. ( if you are expert to draw a flower design you can go step2 onwards)

Step 2: Draw a flower and curve design in the center of your entrance door step

Step 3: Traditional way of cooking for pongal festival is in clay pot, so draw that curves like a pot.

Step 4: Now Pongal pot ready to decorate.

Step 5: Sprinkle the color powder on the flower design. Draw wave designs & line in the Pongal pot.( Refer the below images). In olden days people cooked pongal in clay pot and do pooja for god..Some of the people are following the tradition till now.

Step 6: Start with your favourite of colors to fill on the Pongal Pot Design. Don't forget to draw white line on side

Step 7: For Pongal pot use Brown or Kavi that will suit to Pongal pot. If you want simple design, you can complete until this step. If you want to elaborate this rangoli go further steps

Step 8: Now Start to draw sugar-cane design on all the pongal pot sides.Draw like this flower like curve shape. Sugar-cane is particularly important for this Rangoli decorations. Because sugar-cane is the main harvest for this season.

Step 9: Draw leaves design on top of the sugarcane.

Step 10: Be creative and have fun with your colors! Don't leave empty space on the Rangoli it will give dull look to your Rangoli. Fill with some simple designs.Draw small heart shape in-between the pongal pot and sugar-cane

Step 11: Draw one more Small flower shape in-between the Two sugar-canes. draw white line on sides

Step 12: Color the flower designs and add some more designs on the flower and sugar-cane

Step 14: Use diyas or Flower to enhance the beauty of your Pongal \ Makar Sankranti Rangoli.
